We chose to settle in the Occitanie (formerly Languedoc-Roussillon) region for many reasons, not least its beautiful, unspoiled countryside, the warm, sunny climate and its easy access to Mediterranean beaches, the Pyrenees and Spain.
Add to this the fact that Occitanie is the largest and most exciting wine area in the world. It has a most phenomenal wine history – the first vineyards in France were planted here by the Romans in the early years of the first century AD. As you can imagine, for David, who works in the wine and spirits industry, living in Occitanie was very attractive.
The idea to set up luxury holiday cottages grew from holidaying with our own babies and young children. We found that, despite the lorry-loads of equipment and toys we took with us, the experience was mainly stressful and tiring for the adults.
So we hunted for a property in France in which we could create a holiday haven for parents. Our aim was (and still is) for parents and children to feel equally relaxed and to re-discover the joys of family life away from the stresses and strains of their normal day to day existence, and for everyone to have the holiday that they want.
When we first set eyes on Domaine les Hirondelles we knew it was ideal. We set about renovating and re-designing the former grape-pickers’ cottages in 2011. The result is self-catering accommodation that combines comfortable luxury with a restful and relaxing way of life. Within the 2.5 acres of lawned grounds is a large, heated pool and both are a great draw for children and adults alike. It’s wonderful to see groups of children all getting on together while their parents relax by the pool or in the shade with a book or a cold beer.
The nearby area is a huge pleasure to explore, with amazing landscapes, a wide variety of wine styles, and wonderful people with a passion for taste and flavour, all set amidst sites of great historical interest and within easy reach of children’s activities.
We look forward to welcoming you to our private holiday haven.
